Taurus New Moon RETAKE :: A Personal Reflection

Have you ever wondered why sometimes a daily global horoscope (like my cosmic weather forecasts ) doesn’t make any sense at all for where you are at, while other times it seems right on point?

The cosmos is always in motion. There are so many different types of transits happening simultaneously. There are the present-day worldwide planetary transits and aspects, but the way that these global planetary configurations intersect and interact with your personal astrological birth chart will be unique to you. Furthermore, the cosmos may be creating completely different aspects with the planetary imprints in your birth chart, activating potentialities and tendencies that no one else is experiencing.

It all boils down to the question: which transit is making the most noise in your life today? Imagine you are trying to tune into a certain radio station, but you keep getting a bunch of frequencies coming in at the same time. Which frequency is coming through most clearly? Similarly, which transit is having the strongest impact on you today? You could be experiencing a personal transit that is impacting your chart so strongly that it is drowning out the energy frequency of a global transit. You would need to know how to read a natal chart or get the help of an astrologer to figure this out.

So yesterday there was a New Moon in Taurus and I had big plans to spend the day doing all sorts of relaxing, grounding, Taurus-themed activities. However, this New Moon in Taurus (a transiting Sun-Moon conjunction in my 9th house) was in opposition to my natal Pluto (in my 3rd house of the mind). This meant that yesterday, the day of the New Moon, felt a lot more intense and ungrounded than I had anticipated for me personally.

A Sun-Pluto opposition is a challenging tense aspect where the confident life-giving Sun (representing the ego) is having a confrontation with Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth, which is associated with humanity’s shadow side, our vulnerabilities and our fears. A Sun-Pluto opposition is a tug-of-war between light and darkness, hope and fear.

So within the 24-hour period of this personal Sun-Pluto aspect going exact, I felt unusually threatened, unsafe and vulnerable (Pluto) during a late night walk alone, during which two black cars kept recklessly racing each other up and down the street. I felt uncomfortably noticed by the cars’ occupants – so much so that I called someone and went to great lengths to change my route home. I also walked right passed a dead black bird (Pluto) which never happens, and then I spent most of Wednesday reading frightening predictions of an upcoming eclipse and the tough times the world is headed into. My mind was obsessed with these topics (Pluto in the 3rd house) and I had to really struggle (Sun opposite Pluto) against the temptation to fall into fearful thinking patterns in the face of a world that seems so chaotic, dangerous and out of control.

No transit or aspect is inherently “bad”. Facing our shadow, our fears, our vulnerabilities, and the inevitability of death, is not a bad thing. Working through Pluto themes can be a healthy life-giving process as we come through to the other side. However, this aspect did override that lovely Taurus energy that would have otherwise been accessible for me on Wednesday.  Continue reading “Taurus New Moon RETAKE :: A Personal Reflection”

New Moon in Taurus :: Cosmic Weather Forecast for April 24th – April 30th

We begin the week with a stable trine between two retrograding planets; Mercury, the planet of communication, details, and information-processing, and Saturn, the planet of hard work, responsibilities, commitments and goals. Connected through a trine, this supportive aspect prompts us to review, re-evaluate, and perhaps redesign our goals and commitments. If we have some loose ends or deadlines to address today, motivation and self-discipline are at our disposal.

Monday and Tuesday, the dark balsamic moon maneuvers around the unexpected, ushering us forward through intuitive glimpses, meditative moments and restful reflection, toward the glorious and unobstructed New Moon rebirth in Taurus on Wednesday.

The earth is fecund; the air is ripe with promise and potential. Sow seeds of intention far and wide today. Ruled by Venus, bejeweled by the riches and wisdom from her retrograde journey, this New Moon drips with hope and honey.

By Friday, Taurus’ slow and leisurely stroll through a lush field has turned into a furious, frantic charge.

As the Moon shifts into Gemini to conjunct Mars the warrior, Mercury in retrograde fuses with Uranus the revolutionary in Aries, and Venus leaves Pisces to unite with them in fire. Expect the unexpected. Words are flying fast and furious on Friday. Everyone believes that they have claim to the Truth. Plans are changing. Secrets are surfacing. Are we rebels with or without a cause? Are we creating conflict to defend our egos, or is it our moment to speak truth to power? Do the means justify the ends?

We finish the weekend with a painful conversation between Chiron, our greatest wound, and Saturn, our greatest teacher. Their tense 90° aspect goes exact on Sunday, but this energy will be felt on Saturday as the Moon activates this angle on route into the deeply nourishing waters of Cancer.

Take responsibility. Take care of yourself. Take care of each other.

The fearless girl statue has a conflicted history, and one that I don’t entirely agree with, but its symbolism spoke to me in light of this week’s forecast…

Cosmic Weather Forecast for April 17th – 23rd

A tempest brews over fertile land; the earth as rich and bitter as dark chocolate, freshly plowed.

I’m late! My goal is to write these blog posts over the weekend and post the week’s forecast on Sunday night/Monday morning. However, this week I ended up writing the day’s forecast the day of, and then posting the daily updates on the Lilith Rebellion Instagram account. Honestly I find that inspiration usually strikes the day of a transit and I end up editing and adding to the week’s blog post after publishing it anyway. Oh well, I’ll try to apply some Saturnian energy here and stick to my goal. Here we go…

The week begins with a solemn, stabilizing, grounding moment to help you catch your breath (Moon in Capricorn, Sun trine Saturn), which may feel more like a moment of harsh and heavy reckoning, depending on the nature of your Venus Retrograde story. The body may be sore and the spirit may be weary, and yet there are work and responsibilities to attend to.

The earthy, grounded energy continues throughout the week as the Sun slips into Taurus on Wednesday, briefly uniting with retrograding Mercury for an illuminating moment of breakthrough and clarity. Wednesday’s Last Quarter Moon prepares us for another cycle of growth which will be seeded in our lives next week with the new moon.

Thank goodness for all the earthy goodness this week because the cosmos gets a little gnarly on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, Pluto, the god of the underworld, stations retrograde. This can create heightened vulnerability and prompt us to respond with a reactive power grab or a protective defensive stance.

However, with four planets in retrograde motion this week (Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter and Mercury), it is also a reflective, receptive time, ripe with hidden magic and opportunities for healing and growth.

Three personal planets change signs this week! That’s a lot of cosmic shifting. In addition to the Sun entering Taurus, Mercury enters Aries and Mars enters Gemini at the end of the week, creating a somewhat volatile, fire-air mutual reception with the two planets (the messenger and the warrior) in each other’s signs. Venus and Saturn enter into this fray on Friday with their third and final challenging square.

TGIF! The weekend looks nice and relaxing with the Moon in Pisces and the Sun in Taurus, and no major cosmic storm until the following Friday!

This is the Venus Retrograde Crescendo Week :: Cosmic Weather Bulletin for April 10th – April 16th

The orchestra is warming up.

The musicians are tuning their instruments.

Then the conductor raises his baton. The audience holds their breath in anticipation and… so it begins, the final act of Venus retrograde.

If you care to simmer your senses in this moment of achingly bittersweet, anticipatory delight, I would invite you to listen to Gustav Holst’s Venus suit. Gustav Holst was both a famous English composer and astrologer. He wrote The Planets, a seven-movement suit, with the astrological archetypes in mind…

Astrology is a tapestry of symbolic meaning, woven throughout the solar system. Everything is connected. No event in astrology occurs in isolation, just like no life event occurs in isolation. The art of astrology is synthesis – synthesizing disparate sub-plots into the unity of the overarching story.

All signs in the heavens point to our goddess of love and beauty as the protagonist at center stage this week. All other astrological events are supporting characters and sub-plots. Yes, as I’m sure you’ve heard, Mercury went retrograde on Sunday, but with the retrograde motion of the two planets overlapping this week, Mercury’s initial steps backward are going to play strongly into the Venus Rx story that is continuing in our lives. Mercury begins its retrograde in Taurus, which is ruled by Venus.

This is indeed, Venus’ week.

On Saturday she turns direct again.

She’s on her retrograde homestretch.

This is the closing chapter of your Venus Rx story.

These are Venus crescendo days.

Not everyone will experience Venus retrograde in the same way. Everyone will have a different Venus Rx story, depending on how its movement is intersecting with their natal chart and life circumstances.

Venus is associated with our core values and passions (what we prioritize and see as most important in our lives), self-worth, money, relationships, love, sex, showing and receiving affection, pleasure, art, and beauty (including physical appearance).

Take a moment to reflect. What Venus-themes have been emerging in your life since March 4th, when Venus first began its retrograde journey?

Remember that the Venus retrograde story might not be a dramatic one for you. Perhaps you’ve been experiencing a quiet, but growing reminder to rekindle your passion and act on your values, and this has primarily expressed itself as an internal shift. The degree of intensity of your Venus Rx story depends on how her journey intersects with your natal chart. For example, the intense moments of the Uranus-Jupiter-Pluto square barely shed a ripple in my chart (although it significantly impacted other people in my life). The Venus retrograde on the other hand, is unfolding in my life uncannily, as if I was reading a novel. I can feel the final Venus crescendo week coming. The final chapter is currently weaving itself together as I (literally and figuratively) prepare to take a trip into the epicenter of an emotional storm.

So many Venus themes have emerged for me since March 4th:

  • Reorienting myself toward my passions and the life I want to live: I passionately love astrology. I can’t deny its calling and its spiritual significance in my life. During Venus Rx I began building an online platform for Lilith Rebellion, with plans to be able to offer chart readings some day.
  • Reassessing core values and what’s important to me: I carefully reassessed some emotionally-charged core values and re-prioritized them. This led to making a really difficult and potentially life-changing decision.
  • Establishing a stronger sense of self-worth: I have been struggling with depression for the past year and my self-worth has been eroding. During Venus Rx I, (1) had a terrible 31st birthday that I had been dreading – this was a catalyst that really forced me to examine my self-worth and perception of myself, and (2) I received multiple unexpected encouragements in support of my capacity to pursue my dreams and passions.
  • Healing in the realm of intimacy, love, and relationships: I had some major breakthroughs that I have been waiting years for. The cosmos also stirred its pot of synchronicity, and some unexpected, meaningful encounters with people from my past, have arranged themselves in my life.

Retrograde Season :: Cosmic Weather Bulletin for April 3rd – April 9th

This week both Saturn and Mercury go retrograde! They join both Jupiter, who went retrograde in February, and Venus, who went retrograde in March. Pluto will go retrograde on April 20th. In total, 5 planets will be retrograde in April, almost all at the same time! Venus will turn direct on April 15th, a few days before Pluto goes retrograde.

Astrology is geocentric, meaning the Earth is placed at the centre of the solar system and all the other celestial bodies are positioned in an astrological chart as if they all were orbiting around us (see below). Of course, from an astronomical point of view the sun is at the centre of the solar system (i.e. a heliocentric perspective), but astrology is about how the planets impact us humans, who live on Earth – not on the sun. It’s our perspective that matters here, and thus astrology is geocentric.

Technically it is impossible for planets to actually move backward, but because astrology is geocentric, and because of the varying orbiting speeds and the distance between celestial bodies, it appears to us on Earth, as if planets were moving backward. This is what retrograde means – moving backwards.

Almost all the planets go retrograde at least once per year. Mercury goes retrograde 3 times per year for a few weeks, while Venus goes retrograde every 18 months and Mars goes retrograde about every 2 years. The remaining planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) go retrograde for long stretches every year.

So really, it isn’t a huge deal, especially with the outer planets whose impact is more subtle (depending on how the transits are interacting with your natal chart). However, the shifts, the period when the planets are changing direction, usually do stir up some energetic dust here on Earth. With three planets (Saturn, Mercury, and Pluto) turning retrograde in April, one retrograding planet going direct in April (Venus), and one planet continuing it’s retrograde journey (Jupiter) – that is aloooot of planetary shifting within a short space of time.

Did you know that the astrological symbol for retrograde (Rx or ℞) is the same symbol used by pharmacists to indicate medical prescriptions? The symbol’s history is a bit fuzzy, but it seems to have originated in Medieval texts, which used the abbreviation for the Latin word for recipe, meaning “to take”. The origins of “Rx” are also associated with symbols in both Egyptian and Roman myths that are associated with healing (i.e. the eye of Horus and Jupiter, respectively). So to draw a parallel here, a planet going retrograde is providing a prescription for healing your life material that is associated with that planet’s energy. A retrograde planet slows us down in that area of our life and beckons us to turn inward; to reflect, to reassess, to redirect, to recover or rediscover a part of us that we have lost or forgotten about.

With all the planetary shifts this month we may feel like we are being pulled both forward and backward; like we just can’t get comfortable and find that sweet spot. Our life’s rhythm may feel a little wonky. Hold tight! I’ll expand on the retrograding planets’ prescriptions for healing over the next few weeks.

Welcome to ‘Know Your Worth :: A Venus Retrograde Project’

15 days remain in Venus’ retrograde journey, which began on March 4th. Today is Saturday, April 1st.

To mark the final 15 days of Venus’ trek, I have started a Venus Retrograde Project. Venus is associated with our values and how we establish our sense of self-worth. Everyday, from now until April 15th, I will post an reminder on Instagram to Know Your Worth; a worth that transcends anything you could do to earn it. Follow Lilith Rebellion on Instagram to receive all 15 insta-reminders!

At the time of this writing on April 1st, Venus is currently at 1° Aries, moving backward. Within the next few hours Venus will begin crossing the very sensitive, very powerful Aries Point (also known as Zero degree Aries).

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac wheel. Each of the 12 signs are split into 30 degrees (for a total of 360 degrees – the full zodiac circle). Therefore, Zero degree Aries marks the origin point, the genesis, the birthplace of the zodiac. Every year, the Spring Equinox occurs at Zero degree Aries, when the Sun is conjunct with the Aries Point (~March 21st).

The Aries Point is action. A burst of energy. A catalyst.

So what does it mean that our sweet, lovely Venus is moving backward over Zero degree Aries? Continue reading “Welcome to ‘Know Your Worth :: A Venus Retrograde Project’”
