When you track the sky’s current transits, do you ever wonder who’s getting the day’s birth charts? I mean, there are thousands of human beings being born all over the world each and every hour… so someone out there is going to grow up with the transits of the day embedded in their birth chart… No? Yes? Maybe that’s just evidence that I am a major astro-nerd.
Anyway, I was asking myself that very question because this week we will have ALL FIVE personal planets together in Virgo for the Virgo New Moon early WEDNESDAY morning (ADT). The personal planets include the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars (the Sun and Moon are often referenced as planets in astrology). They are called personal planets because they are closest to Earth and move through the zodiac faster than the outer planets, such as Neptune and Pluto, and therefore have a more explicit, obvious, personal impact within our birth charts.
Point being, whatever little humans are welcomed into the world mid-week, they are going to be ultra-Virgo!
Before we reach the New Moon in Virgo, however, MONDAY begins with Venus still in Leo, passing through the August 21st Solar Eclipse Degree of 28° , while trining Uranus in Aries (this transit would have been felt throughout SUNDAY as well).
This is a strong dose of electrifying and unpredictable energy, zigzagging erratically through your love life, your artistic endeavors, and/or your financial situation – in a very pleasant way, most likely… except that the Eclipse degree speaks to new beginnings, so there could also be a bit of that ache that comes with stretching a tight muscle.
This is a perfect day for coming out of the closet in regards to anything – or anyone – you are passionate about. It’s also an ideal day for wearing whatever the F you want to, getting a wild tattoo, and dying your hair some outrageously wonderful colour (just don’t blame me for any Venus-Uranus hangover regrets 🙂 ).
The world would be boring if we were all the same. Do you, love.
The Moon is also moving through Leo and the Eclipse Degree late SUNDAY and into MONDAY, as it disappears into its invisible Balsamic Moon phase.
As you retreat with the dying Moon, and prepare to accompany Venus’ exit from Leo, bottle up some of those Leo vibes. After Venus leaves, Leo will be barren of planets for many months (aside from the moon’s brief monthly visits). Hold onto your passion and joy. When life gets particularly tough, carve out a moment of pleasure, and sink into it. Make a Virgo-type list of what simple things bring you the most (accessible) present-moment happiness – it can be as simple as a cup of coffee with chocolate or a 10-minute dance party in your room. Put the list in a visible place, and use it to light a pleasure match in the darkness when you need to.
On TUESDAY, Venus will leave Leo and ingress into Virgo. It is this transit that has inspired the Before & After themed photo of the week.
Venus speaks to how we demonstrate love to others and how we attract and create beauty and pleasure in our lives. Virgo is a thrifty Earth sign that fulfills its purpose through serving others in practical ways while fixing, repairing, mending, healing, and perfecting, that which is broken or unwell.
One of my sisters has Venus in Virgo and this placement reveals itself in the way she gets supreme delight out of snagging a bargain deal, transforming it into something new, and then gifting it to someone she loves. She shows affection toward others by finding incredible gems at second-hand stores and outfitting everyone in her life with useful items and clothing. My other sister has Virgo Rising and a Virgo Moon, and both of them are astoundingly good at getting something for almost nothing – and then with a good clean or a little bit of upcycling renos, turning it into something amazing.
Before & After photos are addictive, are they not? Before & After photos are a quintessential Virgoan phenomena. Whether it is the classic pre and post workout muscle-flex pics in the mirror, the Before & After haircut or braces photo series, or the Before & After house renovation photos, we generally can’t seem to get enough of them!
It can be incredibly satisfying to see our progress, our improvement, captured in snapshots, frozen moments in time – enabling us to be able to see the contrast, the comparison between them.
It would be nice, perhaps, if our inner growth and development could be that starkly obvious – if the changing landscape of our internal world could be captured in a Before & After photo series.
I’m reminded here, of words I quoted earlier:
“Don’t let slow progress on the outside make you stop believing what’s happening on the inside.” ~ Daniel Wolfsong
I don’t know about you, but after a long, long season of a lot of internal work without much tangible progress on the surface, I need to constantly create an imaginary Before & After type photo series in my mind – remembering where I’ve come from, and where I’m headed.
It’s all too easy to forget, how many transformations we’ve all walked through.
As Venus travels through Virgo, can we train our eyes to see beauty wherever we go? Not just in the bargain basements, among discarded and dismissed items, but in the areas of society, among the world issues, that are dominated by a reign of hopelessness?
Can we train our eyes to behold ourselves – and all our wounded parts – with a compassionate gaze, perceiving ourselves as beautiful, perfect, and simmering with great potential?
Sometimes I reflect on whether or not the shadow side of each sign would be such a liability if the world were a different place. For example, Virgo has a shadow side of being a perfectionist and overly-critical of herself and others.
However, if we lived in a world that was less focused on “The Outcome”, would Virgo then be freed up to experience greater peace and contentment while engaging in “The Process“ of applying her divine gifts of healing and mending in service of herself and others?
I can see this possibility in both my sisters when they get blissfully immersed in the enjoyable process of fixing or mending or “up-cycling” some discarded item they found.
As we reach this Virgoan peak moment, ask yourself:
The most perfect Virgo quote I think I have ever read, is this:
“You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress simultaneously.” ~Sophia Bush
Venus’ ingress into Virgo is not the only cosmic event occurring on TUESDAY.
The Sun will oppose Chiron early TUESDAY morning, Mercury will pop out of its post-retrograde shadow zone to meet with Neptune in Pisces through an opposition, and for some of you on TUESDAY, the Moon will also fuse with the Sun at 27° 27’ Virgo for the New Moon birth. Depending on the time zone, for others, like myself, the New Moon will occur early WEDNESDAY morning (ADT). Regardless, all of these transits are symbolically woven together.
This New Moon is an important one. It concludes the lunation cycle that began with the Total Solar Eclipse in Leo on August 21st, and will launch us into Libra Season on Friday.
Mercury is the ruler of this New Moon in Virgo, and it is significant that Mercury clears its shadow just before the New Moon – it has returned to the zodiacal position it was in at the time its backward motion first began on August 12th.
We’ve had the opportunity to integrate all those retrograde developments and harvest the necessary insights. Now it is time to apply them in practical ways – this week’s intensification of Virgo vibes emphasizes this message.
The New Moon’s opposition to Chiron, the wounded healer asteroid, indicates that there are indeed, wounds to heal and cracks to mend. Virgo wants to fix it, but again, can we heal without seeing ourselves as broken? Can we see the manifest external beauty yet to come, at the same time as seeing the already-perfect beauty of our true essence that wants to emerge?
The New Moon’s awkward quincunx to Uranus is reminding us that our liberation (individually and collectively) will continue to unfold as we willingly engage in the process.
Mercury’s simultaneous opposition to Neptune may confuse us, or inspire us. It calls upon us to cultivate hopeful imagination of what could be, in order to rewrite our life stories, and to birth new stories into our life worlds. Engaging in art is a perfect response to this invitation.
“In art, we depict our ideals and, in depicting them, we challenge ourselves to face the gap between aspiration and actuality, which in turn challenges us to stretch ourselves and close that gap.” ~ Maria Popova
Transformative energies are running high. On FRIDAY, Mercury in Virgo will trine Pluto in Capricorn, bringing our internal processing or our external conversations on these matters to the next level – to more profound depths.
There may be some growing intensity and urgency earlier in the day on FRIDAY as this aspect is applying while the Sun is passing through the last degree of Virgo (the Anaretic degree). Several hours after the Mercury-Pluto trine, the Sun will ingress into Libra.
Although we still have Mercury, Mars, and Venus in Virgo, on Friday, Libra Season begins. Happy Mabon!
0° Libra marks the Autumn Equinox (in the Northern hemisphere, and the Spring Equinox in the Southern hemisphere).
0° Libra marks the half-way point in the astrological year that begins with the opposing Equinox at 0° Aries in March. Take some time to reflect on the past six months, and your hopes for the next six.
Take note of what is out of balance in your life. Are your time commitments aligned with your priorities and values? Re-center yourself on what is important. Attend to your treasured relationships.
On SATURDAY, Jupiter forms an awkward quincunx to Chiron, and we may experience tension in our attempts to bring harmony and peace to some hurt in our life. Perhaps a splinter must be acknowledged and removed before the skin can heal.
Finally on SUNDAY, Mars in Virgo opposes Neptune in Pisces – the watery challenge that all personal planets must face as they move through Virgoan territory.
One great way to utilize this transit would be to find your “flow”. This concept was named by Csikszentimihalyi and it refers to…
“…the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterized by complete absorption in what one does, and a resulting loss in one’s sense of space and time.” (~ Wikipedia)
Mars in Virgo has incredible stamina for focused, detailed work. Direct this energy toward something beneficial, and with Neptune’s assistance, get in your zone and go with the flow.

P.S. I hope to offer personalized astrological consultations in the near-ish future. I created a survey to help inform this development, which I would be ever so pleased if you were to fill out 🙂 You can find it here. All questions are optional, so if you are short on time and don’t want to answer all 10 questions, just scroll to the bottom whenever and click “Done”. Thanks!
If I collect enough data I will crunch some of the anon results to share. I’ve found it super interesting and helpful so far – thanks to everyone who has responded!
