Practical Nurturing, Supportive Relationships, & the Transformative Seasons & Shapes of Love :: Cosmic Weather Forecast for August 13 -19

In our lives there are times of abundant harvest, times of cold winter, of exuberant blossoming and of cautious contraction. As we pass through these seasons, so do our relationships – with each other, with lovers, with family, with friends, and with the circumstances of the life worlds we inhabit.

To navigate these transient time periods with ease, is to remain open and flexible as we stand at these ever-shifting intersections between us… and everything and everyone else who meets us at our edges.

Eclipse Season is wrapping up. Although some consider Eclipse Season to officially end when we reach the next new moon (in September), as the Sun moves further away from the nodal axis, those edgy, heated eclipse season dynamics begin to dissipate.

If the whispers – or thundering voice – of change has arrived in your life this summer, this week offers some gentle prompts to allow those inner shifts to ripple out and begin redefining and adjusting the way you interact with your environment, and everything and everyone in it.

There are no major transits until the WEEKEND, but from MONDAY to FRIDAY we are working with the practical magic of a grand earth trine between Pluto, Ceres and Juno.

In brief, Pluto is the underworld deity who calls for transformation via letting go of old attachments and old ways of being in the world. Ceres is a mothering, nurturing archetype who has jurisdiction over the natural cycles of life, and Juno is a goddess associated with partnership, faithfulness and commitment.

This trio, in subtle ways, may correlate with some realistic relational re-assessments, some intentional and careful conversations, and some tangible collaborative outcomes.

The Moon plays along with this relational story line as it punctuates the week with a conjunction to Venus, planet of love and connection in Libra, the sign she rules, on TUESDAY. And then on  FRIDAY, as Pluto perfects its trine to Juno, the Moon unites with Jupiter in Scorpio for some deepening, expanding heart-felt vulnerable and authentic connection.

Ceres (Demeter to the Greeks) was the mother of Persephone. When Pluto (the god of the Underworld) kidnapped Persephone to be his wife, Ceres as the grain goddess, in her grief and rage, brought famine to the land.

Jupiter (i.e. Zeus) eventually intervened. Pluto was ordered to release Persephone. However, before she left his domain, Persephone was tricked into eating several pomegranate seeds Pluto offered her. This cemented their union. As a result, Ceres and Pluto had to strike a compromise – basically a warped joint custody situation.

Persephone would split the year between the two of them. When Persephone was on land with her mother Ceres, Ceres blessed the land with abundant harvest. When Persephone returned to the Underworld, the land echoed Ceres’ loss by refusing to bear fruit – thus providing a mythic framework for the changing of seasons, forever repeating its death and rebirth cycle. Demetra George calls this a story of “loss and return.”

As Pluto and Ceres, these two ancient enemies, interact with each other in the sky this week through a gentle, agreeable trine, how might this archetypal story be playing out in our lives?

In what ways, might our relationship to food, to self-care, to nurturing, to mothering roles and mother-type identities… be undergoing a transformation? What change of season might we be accommodating in our inner landscape? How are we processing and channeling our rage and anger at betrayal or violence done to others? And how might the shape and weight of our grief be shifting once again?

Have you been following the story of the Orca whale off the coast of British Colombia?

It has gutted me. The whale’s baby calf, a new member of an endangered species, died on July 24th, right in the thick of eclipse season. For a record 17 days and 1,000 miles, ‘Tahlequah’ carried the corpse of the baby calf on her body, using her precious strength to hold it above the water, balancing it on her nose. When she grew tired, other members of the whale pod helped Tahlequah bear her burden of grief by taking turns carrying the dead baby.

Artist Lori Christopher has so beautifully captured this heart-wrenching story in her painting:

Last Saturday, the day of the Solar Eclipse in Leo, Tahlequah was observed without her baby.

Her 17-day mourning ritual appears to have ended.

The Center for Whale Research’s website reported that Tahlequah “vigorously chased a school of salmon with her pod-mates… for a half mile – no longer carrying the deceased baby that she had carried for at least seventeen days and 1,000 miles. Her tour of grief is now over and her behavior is remarkably frisky.”

Perhaps ‘Spring’ has arrived again for Tahlequah in some way.

As Pluto was perfecting its trine to Ceres, the mythic story a mother’s deep grief and mourning, could not have been more vividly presented to the world.

Ceres is a Mother Earth figure. She reminds us of our interconnected ecosystem; that harm done to planet Earth and its creatures, harms us all.

How much pollution can the world handle before all the whales surrender? How much destruction can this Earth absorb before it refuses to produce a harvest? Ceres’ tale, Tahlequah’s tale, is one of caution that we should listen to if we want Spring and the birth of new life to survive the world’s dark appetites and greed, which threaten to consume it forever.

In our own personal lives this week, we can also ask ourselves what needs more care, what needs more nurturing, what grief needs to be further expressed, witnessed, or carried.

Juno’s participation in this grand earth trine, from her position in Taurus, brings our agreements, commitments and partnerships into the dynamic of cleansing cycles – of nurturing, grieving, loss and renewal.

As the faithful sister-wife of Jupiter, Juno stands for agreements or relationships that are in it for the long haul – the impressive capacity to weather the storms of life and adapt to the ever shifting shapes of love and partnership (of all types). And yet her trine to Pluto asks that truth and authenticity must prevail – the longevity of commitment is not the ultimate prize, rather it is honesty, respect, trust and balanced reciprocity which is worth our investment. Honouring this may mean loosening the bonds of our agreements.

Perhaps a relationship is ready to gain another multi-faceted dimension, to transform its shape. No relationship is ever static.

Juno’s trine to Ceres could bring up overlapping mothering and partnership themes for those of you for whom it is relevant. For others, perhaps we are asked to review our self-care commitments… or to reflect on those people in our life we feel committed to accompanying through life’s more difficult journeys, once the flowers fade (and vice versa).

SATURDAY’s First Quarter Moon in Scorpio brings some intense twists and turns as it confronts us with a doorway to the future, unlocked only by courage, truth and vulnerability.

Mercury Stations Direct in Leo on the WEEKEND (late Saturday or early Sunday, for many of you), while in a sweet sextile to Venus in Libra. This pivot configuration reminds me of the grace of a ballerina’s pirouette. At the same time, the ethereal sounds of our final Jupiter-Neptune trine fill the air, accompanying Mercury’s spellbinding dance moves.

Fiiiiinally, like the stubborn jar lid that finally breaks its air-tight seal beneath your tight grip, something Mercurial that has been stalled, or hovering unseen for the last few weeks, finally slides forward into the light with well-oiled ease. Crucial insights, important conversations, vital information, and long-awaited decisions may all pirouette into our life this weekend.

The slow-moving idealistic and visionary Jupiter-Neptune trine has been one of the trademark grand aspects of late 2017 – 2018. Subtle, slippery, diffuse, and ethereal, this magic-weaving, hopeful bubble of (sometimes escapist) bliss may have gone unnoticed at times, but it alights on this week with its full potency, offering us a moment of spiritual surrender and compassionate embrace.

Solar Eclipse in Leo – Shine like the Star You Are :: Cosmic Weather for August 6th – 12th

You’re special. Shine like the star you are.

Sometimes Leo Season sentiments sound cheesy and cliche,  and echo of statements from kindergarten where every scribbled drawing got awed at, and being king or queen of the playground was a coveted position. As we grew older expressions like “you’re…. special” acquired somewhat of a derogatory connotation.

But you are special! As in: uniquely different from the rest of humanity in so many beautiful, remarkable ways. Everyone is. The more we truly, deeply believe this, the less we need to prove our special value by trying to act superior to others.

It’s Leo Season, the sign ruled by the Sun, and we have the third and final eclipse of this Eclipse Season occurring in Leo on SATURDAY, August 11th. The Sun’s transits to Jupiter, Mercury, Pallas Athena, and Pluto, hold throughout the week and become part of the expression of SATURDAY’s Solar Eclipse.

There’s a pile of other transits throughout the week as well, that I’ve organized into a few cosmic stories: the eclipse story, a Venus story, the Uranus in Taurus story, and the Mars retrograde story.

The Sun in Leo squares Jupiter in Scorpio on MONDAY, expanding some area of our life to new levels of magnitude. Something is growing, getting bigger, acquiring additions, making progress… perhaps dramatically so. Maybe it’s our egos (e.g. Sun in Leo), our ideas, or maybe its a volleyball game on the beach that began with two people tossing a ball back and forth and very quickly expanded to full teams of jovial strangers and a crowd cheering them on.

For example, for me the Sun is transiting my 12th house today/Monday (where the separate individual dissolves into infinite space, our interconnectedness, spiritual transcendence) squaring Jupiter in my 3rd house (learning, reading, writing, siblings). Today I went down some major, ever-expanding internet rabbit holes researching (and being completely awed by) the mystery and complexity of the universe, the nature of galaxies, the size of our sun and solar system embedded in the infinite, mind-blowing expanse of the ever generative and changing outer space — in order to write this blog post.

Furthermore, Jupiter is currently within a few degrees of my 4th house cusp (e.g. home, family), and I found out this Monday night that some other family members (including a sibling) would be moving in for a while (i.e. expansion within the home) .

Rather unusually, at the exact same moment as the Sun-Jupiter square perfects on MONDAY, Venus enters Libra, a sign she is immensely comfortable in. A sign of grace, beauty, charm, and delicate diplomacy. This synchronistic alignment bodes well for some socializing tonight.

However, we currently have a bunch of challenging cosmic bodies (Mars, Chiron, Saturn, Uranus) at the very early degrees of four different zodiac signs (btw, how’s it going for y’all with a natal focus on the early degrees??).  This means when a fast moving personal planet like Venus enters a new sign, they will potentially make contact with all of these potent characters within a short span of time. Libra’s balance may be thrown off this week, particularly in the house holding 0-5 degrees Libra in your birth chart.

On TUESDAY, Uranus joins the retrograde crew with a pivot at 2 degrees Taurus. Uranus entered Taurus on May 15th, 2018, which was a big deal because Uranus spends about 7 years in each zodiac sign. For those of you with planets or points in early Taurus, I’m sure you felt these rumbles. And now, for you especially, Uranus’ retrograde pivot may further stir up some of that change-making cosmic dust.

For all of us though regardless, it’s a time to take stock of what has unfolded in our lives since May 2018. How can we further adjust our sails to catch that every shifting breeze and be carried along the radical currents of collective liberation and unique individual expression? Has life been moving so fast that perhaps we’ve overlooked something or gotten our boat snagged by cloying seaweed? Now is the time to look deeper at that Taurean-ruled house of your chart (or where the early degrees of Taurus lie).

Venus’ air trine to Mars Rx occurs on TUESDAY. If we’ve been working well with our Mars Retrograde maybe we can utilize this trine effectively as action and drive meet with values, desire, and capacity for connection. Otherwise, if Mars’ Retrograde is still proving troublesome, stirring up some old issues, buried anger, and fatigue, we may have the intention to act, but lack the follow-through. It’s a great aspect for social connecting, brainstorming, and strategizing, if you feel so inclined.

And yet even as the supportive trine perfects, so too, does Venus’ more challenging opposition to Chiron (exact on WEDNESDAY), activating some hurts related to relationships, boundaries, and self-worth. Perhaps don’t retreat from supportive social engagement because of insecurities, but assert yourself and your boundaries when you need to.

To those whom you value, tell them you appreciate them today – they may need it.

The Sun fuses with Mercury Rx for its inferior conjunction on WEDNESDAY (marking the half-way point of its retrograde journey), permitting clear communication and insight – especially as pertaining to important agreements and commitments (they square Juno as they conjoin). If the Venus-Chiron is bringing a relational wound to the surface, you likely have the tools in order to address it today.

Pallas Athena hovers beside these two, lending her sharp perception to all thinking, prepping, creative strategizing tasks at hand. If Mercury’s retrograde has messed with any communicative, travel-related or detail-oriented work in your life, now’s a good time to get it sorted out.

Since this Sun-Mercury conjunction occurs as we are late in the lunation cycle, beneath a balsamic moon and darkened night sky, reflective journaling could also be good medicine for the day.

THURSDAY ushers Venus toward a jolt from Uranus in Taurus via a quincunx, who stirs up some restless desire for the new, the radical, and the freeing without necessarily having a game plan for it… as well as a sturdy, cold square with Saturn that’s been building since the beginning of the week.

Venus is strong in Libra, however, and perhaps a bit of constructive pressure from Saturn will prompt us toward finalizing an important relational or creative commitment, or accepting addition work, focus and responsibility in these areas. There could also be a measure of Saturnian separation such as: it feels like friends (or a partner) are distancing themselves from you, which is creating heightened loneliness…. or the symbolism of separation expresses itself as you hand in a final project, thereby completing your summer art course.

Whatever it may be, find that secure foundation you can rely on as you step forward. And yet with the quincunx to Uranus at the same time, don’t let the serious nature of the Saturn square restrain your spontaneity too much…

Finally SATURDAY delivers that New Moon Partial Solar Eclipse we’ve been waiting for. While perhaps not as dramatic as the other two eclipses this season, it is an excellent time to reflect on how you’ve been developing the best of Leo in your life, with consideration of its house placement if you know your chart.

The North Node (a point in the sky that prompts personal growth) has been transiting Leo since May 9th, 2017, causing eclipses to occur in this area of your chart. Eclipses are like surges of energy, highlighting the Nodal growth that seeks wise direction and expression in your life.

The Nodal axis will leave Leo and Aquarius this November 2018. We have one more eclipse on this axis (a Leo Lunar Eclipse on January 31st, 2019), but this is the last Leo eclipse that occurs while the North Node is in Leo. And it’s a New Moon, symbolizing a new beginning. Plant some seeds, root some intentions, for your glorious creative blossoming.

  • How has Leo-ness been positively lighting up in your life since ~May 9th, 2017, or even as far back as February 2017 when we had our first eclipse on the Leo-Aquarius series (e.g. traits of creative self-expression, passion projects, following your heart, self-confidence, the courage to have your unique true self be seen and heard by others, bold loving and connecting, generous encouragement of others)?
  • What has been refueling you with joy, exuberance, and a desire to engage with life?
  • What finishing touches do you want to put on your developing creative and passion-led endeavours?

These are some questions to think about as we head into SATURDAY’s eclipse.

I’ve amended this previous diagram to include a quincunx to Neptune. It’s a bit wide for a minor aspect, but together with Pluto, these outer planets form a Yod pattern with the eclipse as its apex, or as ‘the finger of god’ as it is sometimes called. I interpret this as indicative that while it may be all too easy to place a surface level focus on one’s individual creative/personal projects and expressions of self, Pluto and Neptune ask for a deeper and more thoughtful, soulful, engagement with our creative potentials.

Don’t activate those creative potentials solely for attention or external validation; manifest them in service of your inner fulfillment and in response to the needs of the broader collective that awaits the creative match you will light.

With the square to Jupiter still holding, with Mercury Rx and Pallas Athena nearby, there’s plenty of reflective, thoughtful insight to draw from as you press into greater, deeper, freedom, growth and expansion.

Leo is often accused of narcissism, inflated egos, and dramatically always stealing center stage – but is that expression really reflective of someone’s confidence in themselves? Not usually.

There are 2 directions people tend to lean toward when they are feeling insecurity and uncertain of themselves. They either a) hide, retreat and withdraw, and/or b) they overcompensate (especially when Jupiter is involved as it is with this eclipse). To overcompensate is to react against feelings of insecurity by claiming more space than others, by being the loudest in the room, by acting superior to everyone else, by creating a fake image, by being an extreme perfectionist.

The human ego can be pretty fragile and its likely we’ve all had experiences with both hiding our unique selves and giftings, and trying to overcompensate to defend or prove their value.

As the North Node finishes up its transits through the sign of the lion and we launch another lunation cycle with this Solar Eclipse, cultivate a secure inner center and self-acceptance. Leo’s invitation to have our authentic selves and creative self-expression be seen and heard, can be a daunting, vulnerable one for many.

I get it. I’m a Leo rising with a large heaping spoonful of social anxiety who never shows her face on here. I’m wishing you all, and myself, some fierce inner strength and lion-like courage this season 🙂

With Mars backing up out of Aquarius and into Capricorn on SUNDAY, inner strength may arrive just in time. Mars was in Capricorn from March 17th to May 16th when it entered Aquarius… turning retrograde on June 26th at 9 degrees Aquarius. What is being reviewed, restructured, reassessed, prepared, in these areas of your birth chart, or what do you notice aligning with these dates? You may see themes of March 17th – May 16th resurfacing as Mars moves back into Capricorn.

Mars is still retrograde (until August 27th), but Mars is quite strong and powerful in Capricorn where it can channel its fiery ambition and drive through Capricorn’s traits of patient determination, self-discipline and strategic action.

Venus in Libra pings the Leo North Node via a sextile on SUNDAY,  sending us on our way toward our unfolding potential, with her blessing.

I’ll leave you with this series of Leo inspiration:

Ultrasonic :: Cosmic Weather Forecast for April 9th – 15th

The astro of the past 1.5+ weeks or so, has been dense, heavy, burdensome, and sometimes just downright challenging and discouraging. Like walking through thick mud. They’ve likely been important weeks for personal growth and development, and for overcoming challenges – but they’ve also likely been tough ones.

As the Venus trines to Saturn and then Mars ease us into this week, bringing flow to where there was previous stuckness, we may sense an invigorating fresh spring breeze on its way, ushering us toward an electrifying New Moon in Aries on SUNDAY. Wisdom Tooth Extraction :: Cosmic Weather Forecast for April 2nd – 8th

How was the weekend? Last week we had a Venus-Uranus conjunction in Aries (last WEDNESDAY), and then a Full Moon in Libra last SATURDAY, creating a tense 5-planet T-square with Mars and Saturn as the third leg / apex.

Close relationships may have been feeling under fire.

One thing I forgot to mention with Venus conjunct Uranus (in Aries) is that in addition to its associations with the unexpected, the unusual, the unconventional, the new and exciting… this conjunction can also correlate with times of conflict between people we are close with. Venus brings in the relational factor, whereas Uranus (and Mars-ruled Aries) are symbolic energies that seek to liberate and differentiate the individual at all cost. The Beauty of Wilted Flowers :: Cosmic Weather Forecast for December 11th – 17th

[Hi! Did you know that you could receive these posts conveniently in your inbox? To receive my posts by email, subscribe to Lilith Rebellion email updates]

As of today (MONDAY), Saturn is now at the 29th degree, the final Anaretic degree, of Sagittarius . The countdown to Saturn’s ingress into Capricorn on December 19th/20th continues! Just over a week remains (…between now and the end of my Saturn Return, hallelujah).

Here at the 29th degree – the degree on which Mercury pivoted and first began its retrograde – Saturn in Sag is scrutinizing, probing, examining, and bringing a serious sense of urgency to our actions and big decisions.

What is your Truth? Are you in alignment with it? Continue reading “The Beauty of Wilted Flowers :: Cosmic Weather Forecast for December 11th – 17th”

The Saturn-Mercury Conjunction of the Last Two Weeks :: How is it Showing Up in Your Life?

In my last post I said that Mercury hates going slowly. That was an exaggeration. However, I think it could be true to say that the symbolism of Mercury – as an archetypal projection of our current societyvalues fast and devalues slow.

Mercury Retrogrades harness the gifts of Slowness. They provide us with an opportunity to shift into another way of thinking, processing, and communicating. I always find Mercury Retrogrades magical, even when they are at their most difficult. New insights emerge, important conversations occur, synchronicity abounds, and breakthroughs happen. The past whispers into the present, re-weaving life threads together in new ways. Continue reading “The Saturn-Mercury Conjunction of the Last Two Weeks :: How is it Showing Up in Your Life?”

Even When at its Most Dreary, Our World Retains a Glimmer of Magic :: Cosmic Weather Forecast for December 4th – 10th

Have you rebounded from that doozy of a weekend? Everyone I know, including myself, spent most of it in bed or finding other various ways to escape conscious awareness of time. Most of the weekend slipped down a rabbit hole – otherwise known as Mercury Stationing Retrograde and a Full Moon in Gemini squaring Neptune.

This week greets us with Chiron the asteroid, otherwise known as the wounded healer of the sky, turning Direct on TUESDAY after being retrograde since June 30th. Continue reading “Even When at its Most Dreary, Our World Retains a Glimmer of Magic :: Cosmic Weather Forecast for December 4th – 10th”

Full Moon in Gemini :: Accept & Integrate the Many Sides of Your Personality

Today (Sunday), the Full Moon occurs at 11 degrees Gemini, opposite the Sun in Sagittarius.

With the Full Moon’s ruler, Mercury, Stationing Retrograde at the 29th crisis-oriented degree of Sag, while the Sun and Moon tightly square Neptune… which is trining Jupiter… this one is a weird one for sure, which I described further in my weekly forecast. Don’t jump to any conclusions or make hasty decisions. Exercise patience with your possible lack of focus, energy and motivation this weekend.

In this post, I want to talk about the twin symbolism of Gemini and how that speaks to the multiple sub-personalities we all have. Continue reading “Full Moon in Gemini :: Accept & Integrate the Many Sides of Your Personality”

The Wandering Mind & Exercises of Attention :: Cosmic Weather Forecast for November 27th – December 3rd

[Hi! Did you know that you could receive these posts conveniently in your inbox? To receive my posts by email, subscribe to Lilith Rebellion email updates]

This week is a crescendo that builds toward the Full Moon in Gemini on SUNDAY (Dec. 3rd), which occurs simultaneously with Mercury (the Full Moon’s ruler) turning Retrograde for its final backward journey of the year. What a way to launch!

Mercury is the messenger of the sky, the Sun’s quick-footed sidekick that symbolizes thought, communication, short-distance travel, siblings, and any type of information-processing (which includes technology).

I always find it fascinating how Mercury Retrogrades often seem synchronically  timed and patterned to really bring our attention to a certain transit or cosmic event. Continue reading “The Wandering Mind & Exercises of Attention :: Cosmic Weather Forecast for November 27th – December 3rd”

New Moon in Scorpio :: Cosmic Weather Forecast for November 13th – 19th

[Hi! Did you know that you could receive these posts conveniently in your inbox? To receive my posts by email, subscribe to Lilith Rebellion email updates]

We’ve had a series of Jupiter conjunctions recently. Jupiter is renown as the “lucky” magical planet of blessings. When a planet forms a conjunction with Jupiter, the planet’s symbolism can inherit Jupiter’s gifts of expansion, luck, and success.

Within the last month we’ve had Mercury conjunct Jupiter! The Sun conjunct Jupiter! And now today (MONDAY), Venus conjunct Jupiter!

And yet… I always have to add a note of caution. I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade… but the Jupiter conjunctions are occurring in… Scorpio. And since Scorpio holds our deeply repressed material and all that we fear (along with profound truth and power), these typically joyful conjunctions with jovial Jupiter are… complex.
